OUGD 104 evaluation

END OF MODULE SELF-EVALUATION

1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
In this module I feel that my drawing skills have developed vastly I seem to spend more time on drawing and creating a high quality finished product. I also think my time management has improved also, having to set aside time to draw definitely made me organise and think about my schedule and deadlines.

2. What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?
I feel my approach to primary research could have been better but I do feel my secondary research into designers definitely pushed my work. I felt my ‘doodles’ started to look more interesting after looking into to similar designer’s. I think it also helped me put my work into context and also helped me with composition.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?
My strengths have been my drawing skills, from this I feel I have developed a style/look that I can capitalise on and that I’m happy with. I also can capitalise on this by using these drawing skills in other brief’s where I wouldn’t of used this technique before.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?
I felt my weakness at first were time management, I did address this and felt I dealt with it. I also that at time’s my motivation was a problem but again addressed this in the proper manner. As for my design work I felt my weakness lay in sticking to one medium for duration of time, I could of used different pens, paint’s or anything to make a mark with just to develop my ideas. My punctuality and attendance was also some I could of worked on towards the start of the module but felt towards the end, this bettered.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

1. Attend all session timetabled.
2. Use a variety of mediums, techniques and materials.
3. Start work early and try and finish before deadline so if any changes need making they can be made.
4. Think carefully about the context of my work and think of this before getting into the process.
5. Evaluate my work ongoing, which in turn shall help me, design to a better standard.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:

5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor

Attendance 2
Punctuality 3
Motivation 3
Commitment 4
Quantity of work produced 2
Quality of work produced 3
Contribution to the group 3

Communication is a virus

after brainstorming ideas today with Jonny (on the phone) we have come to the decision that we are going to encourage people to make music. The feeling that comes from this is something that everyone can enjoy and is quite a accomplishment. After tomorrow we shall know who are target audience is what they will respond to and what will be the best deliveries.

Communication is a virus

Me and Jonathan packman are collaborating on this new brief. We were given a number of task to choose from we choose "Try something new".

after going through the normal ideas of food, lifestyle, a new product etc, we both realized we show a massive common interest in music.

We came up with these ideas

- Try a new night (actually could work with a live brief for this one. I have been asked to create a identity for a night in town on thursday night at Mook called no more hero's).
-Try something new Dont drink enjoy the music. ( i did this the other night enjoyed it, but TELLING our target audience this would be difficult)
-Try a new genre ( most people often limit them selves to one or two genres of music. Would'nt it be great it everyone had the musical knowledge and open view on music like john peel did)
-A new radio station(Break from the norm and search the frequency's for a underground radio station it could become your favorite).
-Try something new Learn how to make music ( play a instrument, make music electronically? could be aimed at either younger teenagers promoting the cool life style of music producers and dj's and is a constructive thing to do, or promote at adults as a do something new style approach.)

how to final resolutions

Final resolution ideas for my how to brief.
-poster
-lorry banner
-in-store flyer

To come
-Point of sale stand
-labels for food
-flags
-trolley banners
Bad photoshop skills. I know.
feed back in crit was generally good, the ideas was not disputed once, but some people had little niggles about some parts of the design. which can be sorted out easily enough.

Work from Bo130

Just some more research for my what is a line brief. Here are some pieces from the london police. This has got me excited about the scale im going to be working on.
I have also come up with the context of my work.Music events or shop openings often have white boards where artist's draw and illustrate as the music is being played or before the event just to add something to it. People could even interact with it by colouring it in or adding there own bits! So thats my context creating a board for a music event. One in-particular called dirty vinyl in liverpool, I shall illustrate the boards before, but if have time i am going to go to liverpool to do a board whilst the dj's are playing on the 27th of March.

Vinegar

also found this book which is interesting for fans of vinegar. It shows many uses of using vinegar for different things! must say its not much to look at but the content is useful! This could be used for a brief idea redesigning the the book to appeal to a specific target audience.

Hippy Home Cleaning (How to brief)

Clean Green:How To Clean Your Showerhead With Vinegar

Appliances:How To Clean Your Microwave With A Lemo

Clean Green:How To Clean Silverware With Tomato Ketchup

Clean Green:How To Polish Shoes With A Banana

Research for 'How to brief'. These videos show great alternatives for cleaning not only saving money but also the environment.

you can check the rest of the videos here. These video are easy to understand, but i want to break them down into step by step's and make them more accessible to my target audience.

How to brief

For this brief we were asked to pick a number between 1-1000 and then given a 'How to' topic i recieved ' How to remove hard water deposit's from your shower head '.

I have come up with these 3 ideas to take further.

Eco products - using eco friendly products for jobs around the house.  such as white vinegar for removing hard water deposits from your shower head. the target audience here would be people interested in 'saving money' and 'helping to save the earth'.

Student cleaning - using persuasive illustration photography to grab the attention of people who don't or wouldn't usually reside in a clean house. my target audience here would be male aged between 18-25.

DIY style informative - instruction's on how to clean your shower head. The target audience here would be any body who buys a shower so home owners, landlords etc. This subject would not need to use context to persuade instead it would be purely instructional.
