OUGD 103 evaluation

1. What practical skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

For his module i think i have developed my time management and organization skills massively compared to module's completed before. i have shown this through using action plans and feel that this helped me. My time management also played a huge part in me completing our last project as i started the project two weeks late due to my shoulder injury. I also feel i developed on my problem solving skills and i have started to commit to ideas and try and push them forward. Again this was something i needed to do to complete the speaking from experience project as i did not have time to be switching between ideas and concepts. In the previous modules i have gain knowledge and skills in Indesign and feel that this will help me push my editorial work and give a much higher quality outcome. I have also gain practical skills in working with partners and feel i have overcome my barrier of not being able to work with people who have a different approach to working. This was applied in the communication is a virus brief where at first i had a hard time working with a partner, who had a similar approach to work as me. After a while i realized that to get the work done we had to work together i became i lot less controlling and felt i laid back a bit and just did the work asked. This is where i realized i put my self in the position of not being able to work with partner's/in collaborations.

2. What approaches to/methods of problem solving have you developed and how have they informed your design and development process?

I felt my problem solving skills were essential for my work in our speaking from experience project and found again that with a problem your work straight away means something. I also started to think more about solving the problem for your selected audience and how to do this. For example in previous modules i feel my work was suited to one target audience, which was me i was only really interested in what i like and i find appealing. Using this approach for work would only of appealed to like minded individuals and not my target audience. I have learned hat work may not appeal to the designer them selves but has to appeal/communicate/grab the attention/effect the person who the design is aimed at. i feel that this will hugely benefit my design work.

3. what strengths can you identify in your work and how will/you capitalize on these?

I feel my strengths in this module were probably my ability to make decision's and commit to them. i also feel that a strength i have gained is analyzing development and concepts to see what works. This was shown in the communication is a virus brief where i really looked at what would connect with my target audience, we also looked at two different target audience's which really helped me see the essentialness of no only designing for the audience But also seeing that some concepts work with on target audience but not with another. I think i still need to push this a bit more but feel i have progressed in this area whereas before i didn't really look to deep in to it. I can also identify strengths in my time management which gave me time to really think and analysis. When i didn't have time to do anything and rushed i feel this was sometimes missed. I also learn't mid way through this module that im not scared of working hard anymore and can put my full effort in to my work. This was shown when i had to re-sumbit my print elective, complete module OUGD104 and continue with work from this module. I also felt my time management skills were apparent here too.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?

I think my biggest weakness for this module has been in my research skills, I find it hard to establish exactly what research will help my work and where it will help my work. I think i tend to take a lot of stuff in and not document it which is something i am going to have to start doing. I think i will start to treat the research it self like a little project and spend more time learning and knowing my research subject. i feel that not researching enough limits my work to my knowledge and again is starting to revert back to how i worked before. I also feel that i needed push my ideas more and think about context's of work, i have started to feel the burn of the year and feel that our speaking from experience brief was not my strongest point of this module and sometimes the problem of not pushing my ideas was apparent. This is something i will address asap. My work also played foul to a lot of spelling mistake's this make my work look poor and un-professional.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

1. Spend more time on research and learn how to use the research effectively from peers etc. From doing this i feel my work will have more body and become more that just aesthetically pleasing.

2. Don't stick with my original ideas and push them forward and if needs be take them back a step or two. This shall hopefully get rid of the more stagnant ideas and leave room for bigger better ideas.

3. I feel in this module i also didn't push my practical skills much which is something i will do different next time, by doing this i will be be able to gain knowledge about things i don't know i.e. working with materials i haven't worked with before or techniques i haven't used before.

4. Don't let my self evaluate the work only, i will still be analyzing the work as i go on but will use peers and crit's to form the evaluation and not count on my own judgement as much.

5. Use a dictionary on everything i produce i have made some silly mistake in not only collage work but also in work out side of collage. I feel this will not make me look stupid and hopefully make me a better speller.
